Welcome
Welcome to the Master's programme in International Economic Relations at the Department of Economics of the University of Konstanz. We have made an attempt to provide a balanced, but concise description of our programme and of the academic and social environment of the University and the Lake Konstanz area. I hope the page will be of interest to you.

The Department of Economics in Konstanz is one of the finest in Germany. We enjoy an outstanding record in our research efforts as well as in student satisfaction. The School of Law and the Department of Politics and Management, which contribute to the programme, also rank among the very best in Germany.

Our Department of Economics is dedicated to providing the graduate students with a modern world-class training, which is a prerequisite for exceptional careers in multinational companies, international organisations, the public sector, and academia. It is our objective to train professional international economists who will succeed in whatever they may wish to achieve.

The Master's programme in International Economic Relations offers a challenging and rigorous two-year graduate programme for students with a distinguished first university degree in any discipline which provides a sufficient background in quantitative methods (social sciences, natural science, engineering, mathematics, etc.). Our graduate students work very hard, but they do so in a sympathetic academic environment characterised by small second-year classes, accessible professors, informal relationships, a truly international student body and staff with firmly established international connections.

Even though the courses of the programme are taught in English, students have the opportunity to learn German, thereby enhancing the attractiveness of their profile on the job market. Students with a command of German are welcome to supplement their individual programme of study with courses taught in German.

Students at the University of Konstanz enjoy the atmosphere of a beautiful German university town and a wonderful part of Germany in the immediate neighbourhood of Switzerland and Austria.

Admission to the Master's Programme in International Economic Relations is no longer possible. In October 2009, we will be introducing a new international Master's Programme in Quantitative Economics. This new Master's programme provides students with greater flexibility in their choice of courses and includes a fast track to a PhD.
